The Scenic California Highway 1

Recently several friends and I visited the scenic California Highway 1 since it’s only a one-day trip, so we only visited one of the most beautiful stretch of the highway ocean front view which includes the vicinity of Monterey & the 17-mile drive, as well as the charming little town Carmel. I have been living in California for more than twenty years and it’s my first visit, which is a shame. Two of the friends have visited the area several times, but they still find it very exciting and find something new to explore each time. Anyway, I put together a little slide show here and hope you will enjoy it!  🙂

And of course, I have not forgotten my shameless self-promotion here. During the trip, I carried my trusty SOS EDC™ Compact RFID Blocking Anti-Theft Travel Passport Neck Pouch / Belt Wallet with me. So when I was jumping on the rocks at the beach with joy, I didn’t have the slightest of worry that my wallet will fall off the cliff and got washed into the abyss of the ocean. I would have carried the Carbon Fiber Leather RFID Blocking Anti-theft Passport Wallet w/ Removable Chain if I was not wearing jeans, however, I have other use of the Survival Wallet as well if you now what I mean. 😉

The Survival Wallet – SOS EDC™ Compact RFID Blocking Anti-Theft Travel Passport Neck Pouch / Belt Wallet

CCW ammo magazine pouch walletAs you might have learned, the SOS EDC™ Compact RFID Blocking Anti-Theft Travel Passport Neck Pouch / Belt Wallet has many carry options, and my favorite one is for carrying two spare pistol magazines for concealed carry purpose. I truly believe what makes America great is the freedom and rights the U.S. constitution provides, of which one of them is the right to bear arms as stated in the 2nd Amendment. And to fully exercise this right, I applied & received the CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) license. While there are many concealed carry options for the firearms, but not that many choices I like for carrying the spare magazines truly concealed.

While the wallet/pouch’s original design is not intended for carrying spare handgun magazines, but I quickly found out it’s very well suited for such purpose, especially for the single stack magazine with 10 rounds or less capacity. Carrying two double stack magazines is fine but just a bit bulky.

I don’t know if you have heard, recently there are a rash of home invasion/burglaries targeting the Chinese-American homes in the sosedc-RFID-muli-tool-pouch-walletGreater LA area. And the now banned YouTube rap song “Meet the Flockers” by YG encouraged criminals to go after the Chinese-American homes because they are perceived to have a lot of cash & jewelry  stashed at home. If you happened to be visiting one of the gun shops in the LA area, you will see it’s most likely jam packed with Chinese-American customers. Even one of my female friends whom I never thought of considering owning a gun before is now getting one to protect herself. However, getting a CCW in LA is nearly impossible due to the stricter gun laws which I believe is very unfortunate, this will only hurt the law-abiding citizens like my friend to defend herself against the bad guys while such gun law has no effect on the criminals.

Hey, but even if you don’t believe in the 2nd Amendment, you can still find great use of the SOS EDC™ Compact RFID Blocking Anti-Theft Travel Passport Neck Pouch / Belt Wallet. You can use it to carry multi-functional/survival tools. 🙂

Confirming the RFID Blocking Feature with The Manufacturer

SOSEDC-RFID-Wallet One of the great features of the SOS EDC™ Compact RFID Blocking Anti-Theft Travel Passport Neck Pouch / Belt Wallet is definitely the RFID blocking capability. However, I have noticed a layer inside the wallet is cut, so I have been wondering if the RFID blocking layer was cut, but since the manufacturer provided me with a copy of the certification report on the RFID blocking material used on the wallet, so I put this in the back of my head for a little bit. But as more and more units of the wallet being sold, I want to make sure the customers are actually getting what they paid for so I decided to contact the Manufacturer’s representative I have been dealing with last night. His name is Randy, a young and energetic guy in China. By the way, we communicated in English via email or texting, but in Mandarin when speaking over Skype.

At first I sent him an email with the picture of the wallet showing the issue I am concern about. I know there is time zone different between the United States and China, so I waited until it’s about noon time in China to see if he has responded. I also noticed he just signed on to Skype, so I decided to message him over Skype and he quickly responded, turned out that he has not received the email yet. After explaining the issue, he initiated the video call over Skype. He assured me the wallet is made of the RFID blocking materials, in fact there are three FRID blocking layers, including one in the front pocket, so in case you keep any chip enabled credit cards in the front pocket, they will be protected. The piece of cloth showing as cut in the wallet is actually the extension of one of the layer sticking out. He even ripped open one of the same wallets to show me the inner RFID blocking layer of the wallet. It was such a relief for me on this issue. I understand the cut is not very neat, but consider the affordability of the wallet, I believe it’s a minor issue and hopefully improvement will be made on the next production.

Anyway, I really appreciate Randy’s help in making this wallet from concept to reality for me. I am really hoping to get some feedback from the current customers or even potential customers for improving the wallet for even better utility.

On the side note, Randy said he still has not received the email I sent him, even though I can received the test email he sent me, but Skype is totally made up for the email misbehave. It’s amazing how technology can enable global communications these days.

By the way, don’t forget to participate the FREE SOS EDC™ Neck Pouch / Belt Wallet Give Away contest.

What Are American’s Biggest Fears?

I have not watched TV for a long long time, I am talking about years, discounting the occasional accidental tune-in while flipping through the TV input options trying to connect my iPad Mini to the Apple TV to listen to music while working out. For great sound quality, I have my TV connected to the 5.1 home theater system. Anyway, when I was flipping through the TV inputs yesterday, the TV option stayed long enough and it’s the news hours, so I just decided to watch it in part to learn more about the propositions I will vote on in the coming election. Anyway, as usual, I found most of the news items boring but find this one rather interesting: American’s Biggest Fear.

According to the source from Chapman University, here are the top 10 American’s Biggest Fears:

  • 60.6% – Corrupt Government Officials
  • 41% – Terrorist Attack
  • 39.9% – Not Having Enough Money for the Future
  • 38.5% – Terrorism
  • 38.5% – Government Restrictions on Firearms/Ammunition
  • 38.1% – People I Love Dying
  • 37.5% – Economic/Financial Collapse
  • 35.9% – Identity Theft
  • 35.9% – People I Love Becoming Seriously Ill
  • 35.5% – The Affordable Health Care Act/Obamacare

There you have it. These are all legitimate fears we all face today and with such high percentage, I totally agree with the #1 fear. But I am a little suprised that Identity Theft made it to top 10 list. But judging from the horor stories of the identity theft victims of what they have to go through, I guess I shouldn’t be suprised. While sometimes, the occurrence of identity theft event is out of our control, such as the security breach on major banks, health insurance companies, retail stores…etc., or the latest Yahoo account compromise, but on the personal level there is something we can do to protect our identity and privacy. The one thing you can do is starting with changing your wallet to a one that’s capable of RFID blocking. I am sure you have found out already that most credit cards now come with a chip. Identity thieves equipped with special high-tech device can steal your credit card information when they get near you and scan your wallet or purse without you knowing what’s going on. You can do a search on Youtube and will find videos such as this one:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49o91DvqQ7k.

And you guess it right on the money, our SOS EDC™ RFID blocking wallets will do the job of stopping the scanning if used properly. Our wallets are not only designed to stop electronic pickpocketing but also the physical pickpocketing. I have replaced my old leather wallet with the Compact RFID Blocking Anti-Theft Travel Passport Neck Pouch / Belt Wallet when I am wearing jeans or the Carbon Fiber Leather RFID Blocking Anti-theft Passport Wallet w/ Removable Chain when I am wearing dress pants. Now I don’t need to worry about my credit card information and the wallet itself got stolen.  The protection these wallets provide is well worth the small investment you put in, this could be one of your smartest investment you will ever made. Trust me, you really don’t want to go through the ordeal of loseing your wallet or your identity got stolen and used in fraudulent / criminal activities.

So please CHECK THEM OUT and recommend to your friends. 🙂

Introducing SOS EDC™ – The “Save Our Souls EveryDay Carry” Brand

sos edc brand As mentioned in the last blog post, I have exciting news to announce, about two weeks ago I finally launched the two products for sale on Amazon. From contemplating on starting the Amazon FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) business to finally making it happen took me about a year. It took such a long time because I have a demanding full-time job too, so at the end of the day, sometimes it’s very difficult to get motivated to put in the time and effort  in this competitive endeavor. Who would not rather be relaxed, watching a movie or playing a video game? I guess what kept me going is trying to prove that once I set my mind on something I can accomplish it no matter how hard it may seem.

Hidden Neck / Pocket RFID Blocking Travel / Everyday Carry Anti-Theft Passport Belt Wallet / Pouch by SOS EDC™ - Never Lose Your Wallet Again!

Hidden Neck / Pocket RFID Blocking Travel / EveryDay Carry Anti-Theft Passport Belt Wallet / Pouch by SOS EDC™ – Never Lose Your Wallet Again!

Anyway, back to the Amazon FBA business, so why did I choose the two products I am offering right now? I spent a lot of my spare time and money on the Amazon FBA training course but when it comes to picking the products, I didn’t exactly follow the rules & tips in the training materials to pick the most likely successful and profitable product categories or niche. I picked them mainly based on my personal experience and interest. As mentioned in my early blog post, I took a trip to China last year and used a similar RFID blocking belt wallet during the trip. I ended up using the wallet not as intended by putting it in my jeans’ pocket instead of tucking it underneath the pants.  You can read more about it on the product description page if you are interested in learning more about the improvement & changes I made on the “SOS EDC™ Compact RFID Blocking Anti-Theft Travel Passport Neck Pouch / Belt Wallet“. While this neck pouch / belt wallet may not be the best looking, but I believe it’s probably the most practical, so please give it a try to see if you agree with me or not. You can always return it for a full refund if you find out otherwise.

As for the “Carbon Fiber Leather RFID Blocking Anti-theft Travel Passport Wallet With Removable Belt Loop Chain“, it’s an after-thought which I believe it is a very good compliment to the belt wallet above because not all the pants have the same style of pockets like the jeans’. While researching for potential suppliers I found this high-quality stylish passport wallet from a different supplier manufacturer in China. I asked the manufacturer to add the removable chain to the wallet as I am alway high on personal & property security. The original chain which comes with the sample is a lot lower in quality than the current one available. I then asked the manufacturer’s rep to find a completely different chain which should be longer in length and has the matching color with the wallet, plus a leather belt loop, and to my amazement, the rep was able to find one for me rather quickly and I must say the difference is like day and night. See how they compare below.

wallet-chain-optimized

Carbon Fiber Leather RFID Blocking Anti-theft Travel Passport Wallet With Removable Chain by SOS EDC™ - Never Lose Your Wallet Again!

The new belt loop chain looks and feels even better if you hold it in your hands. I am even thinking about offering it as a separate item for people who might have the need for it to security their keys and another valuable carry on person items.

As mentioned earlier, I have spent so much time and money in this venture, I don’t think I will be able to recoup all my investment after selling all the current inventories, but that doesn’t matter, the lessons I learned, the knowledge I gained and the professional relationship developed with the manufacturer reps are well worth it and more.

And to be honest, coming up with the brand name & logo; creating the products and making them available on Amazon to me is only half of the battle, as marketing is my real weakness. You see, I am really not a sales person type of guy. I am hoping the online platform is a little easier for me as it doesn’t require the in-person communication which I am pretty bad at. But even with the online marketing, I am still pretty bad at it, I still feel awkward sharing this venture with friends on social media so very few friends know about it as of this posting. I guess I have to learn & conquer one strategy at a time. But then I also pat on my own shoulder, knowing that it’s not an easy task for me to have come this far and I made it to the point which I thought I could have never been able to achieve.

Even if I don’t make it at the end, I will have no regret because I have given it my honest & best try. And for those who have already made the purchase, from the bottom of my heart, I really appreciate your vote of confident in the products with your hard owned money and I am sure you will find them useful as I do personally. I am committed to providing the best products & services as long as the products are still in demand. If you ever have any questions regarding the products, please feel free to contact me via the contact form on this website and I will personally respond to you and address the issues.

I almost forgot to talk about how I come up the brand name and the logo. Anyway, after I have decided on making the Compact RFID Blocking Anti-Theft Travel Passport Neck Pouch / Belt Wallet, I wanted to offer it under a brand name, which is also called private labeling. Well, to be honest, I am really lacking in the art department,  so the easiest way to come up with the brand name is to utilize part of the sohosos name “sos” and since the wallet is for carrying, so the original brand name is “SOS CARRY” and I was pretty excited, contacted the logo designer I used before via a freelancer website to design the logo for me, by the way, he is located in Turkey and he is also the one who designed the sohosos.com logo for me, he is amazing :-).   After receiving the logo and looked at it for a while, suddenly I realized there is something wrong with this brand name, I was trying to put myself in the shoes of the person who may have come across the brand name the first time and try to say it. And you know what, it sounded like “So Scary”! OMG!! LOL!! Anyway, since one of my personal interest is in the everyday carry stuff, I finally come up with “EDC” to replace “Carry”, which stands for everyday carry. And the best part is the sosedc.com website domain is also available, for now, I am forwarding the sosedc.com website to the product page on sohosos.com. Again, I am not talented in marketing and art, but I believe “SOS EDC” is better than “SOS Carry”, don’t you agree? 🙂

My Grammarly Weekly Stat.

Grammarly Weekly Stat

As mentioned in a previous blog post, I have been using Grammarly in my writing to correct grammar & spelling errors. One of the features I really like is the free web browser extension for Firefox and Google Chrome.  Once it’s installed, it will automatically check your online writing for error, as I am writing this blog right now. I also receive weekly writing statistics like the screen shot above. I must say that I am proud of myself, I need that encouragement and the boost in confidence in my writing. Thanks, Grammarly! I definitely recommend this great tool to improve your writing skill.

Lastly, not so related to Grammarly, exciting news will be announced soon. To me it’s huge, I have been learning, planning & working for about a year now with whatever spare time I can squeeze to finally made it happened. Stay tuned! 🙂

Book Recommendation: Time Isn’t the Problem, You Are: Four Strategies to Transform Stress Into Success

I have never recommended a book half way through reading it, but the book I am currently reading is an exception. The book I recommend reading if you want to how to achieve your goal in life is “Time Isn’t the Problem, You Are: Four Strategies to Transform Stress Into Success” by Chad E. Cooper. I learned about this book from the radio talk show program Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. As usual, I turned on my radio on the way driving home after finishing my night shift at 12 am on August 19 and listened to Coast To Coast AM program. As you may know, most of the time, the radio talk show is about UFOs, paranormal & remote viewing…etc., which I am a bit skeptical but have an open mind to embrace this kind of topics, I do believe in UFOs exist by the way :-). But occasionally the talk show host George Noory brings on some guests who can offer some real life changing advice for ordinary folks like me. And that night is no exception, the guest being interviewed is Chad E. Cooper.

I am very impressed by Chad Cooper’s credential & achievements mentioned during the radio show interview. He also talked about his book “Time Isn’t the Problem, You Are: Four Strategies to Transform Stress Into Success” in the show and I purchased the Kindle version of the book right when I got home.  Now that I am about half way through reading the book, I must say that it’s one of the most practical books which offers real actionable advice on how to break out of your current stagnate situation and achieve success in life. I also found out the hard times & issues he faced before are a lot like my own, except that I am still not able to achieve even a tiny fraction of his success. 🙁

Here are some of the great advice I learned so far: Stop using limp language in our writing; create roles in our daily routines; do you view your past experience & current situation as an excuse or an explanation? … and I like this definition of Fear: False Emotion Appearing Real. Of course, there is a lot more actionable advice in the book than I just mentioned, and I am only half way through the book. I have never highlighted so many sentences in a book before. Anyway, if you want to learn how to get out of your current rot and achieve whatever you set your mind to, I highly recommend this book. You can check out the preview below.

Check Out This Great Writing Assistance Tool – Grammarly

First of all, I’d be honest that English is not my first language, so the concern of being grammar-correct in my writing is always in my mind. Recently I found a great tool which really help me in improving my writing and boost my confidence. That tool is called “Grammarly“.  I don’t remember how exactly I come across this great tool but after a brief visit to their website, I decided to sign up immediately. After a few days of usage, I must say that even the free account offers a lot of help in catching spelling and grammatic mistakes.

One of the great features I really like is the ability to use it online, for example, writing a blog post on my WordPress website. Other great applications of this tool I can come up with are: job application, resume, copywriting,  student term papers, writing your own book…etc.

They offer free plugins for major browsers such as Firefox & Google Chrome, however, it’s not available for the Microsoft Edge yet.  I also found out Grammarly is currently not available for Google Docs yet. However, you can use the Grammary Editor for your writing and then transfer it over to Google Docs if needed. You can also install Grammarly‘s add-in for Microsoft Office. Another option is to install Grammarly for Windows which is a native app for your computer.

Anyway, I highly recommend Grammarly to assist you with writing, it will really improve your writing and conveys your idea and message much better. It may finally help you land that great job you have been looking for with your resume & cover letter proofread by Grammarly before applying.
